Profile
Kōtare Aviation principal and director, Geoff Shearer, has been in the aviation industry since he first left school and started an Engine & Airframe apprenticeship in one of the UK’s aviation centre’s, RAE Farnborough. Following that he moved to what he called his second apprenticeship, working for Dan Air Engineering services, first at Lasham in Hampshire, then Gatwick and a 6-month posting to Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris.
In 1991, Geoff commenced an overseas adventure that saw a time outside the industry, where his flexibility and enthusiasm to develop saw him go from team member to team supervisor and on to business development and sales.
Returning to the UK with his fiancé, and after a short period of contract work, he joined British Midland at Heathrow, which also included another posting to CDG in Paris.
In 1999 Geoff joined Air New Zealand Engineering Services in Christchurch NZ, where he was given a chance to thrive. Bringing his flexibility and enthusiasm to Air NZ saw the development of a career that stretched across many facets of aircraft maintenance & engineering, and the airline, throughout NZ and Australasia, including planning, project management, procurement, account and commercial management, eventually leading to operations management and leadership of over 300 staff.
Today, Geoff has taken the next step in his career and is bringing these unique skills and experiences to the wider industry through his company, Kōtare Aviation.
